- Look out for a smooth and finely textured skin.
- Pick a firm and heavy fruit as it will have a higher juice content.
- Oranges like most citrus fruits, produce more juice when warmer — juice them when they are at room temperature.
- They last for a good two weeks, at room temperature.
Health Benefits:
1. They are an excellent source of Vitamin C, which helps in protecting against cancer cells by neutralizing free radicals.
2. Oranges, being rich in Vitamins B6, support the production of haemoglobin.
3. Anti-oxidants in oranges help protect skin from free radical damage known to cause signs of aging.
4. Soluble fibers in oranges are helpful in lowering cholesterol.
5. They are full of potassium.
6. Reduces risk of liver cancer - According to two studies in Japan eating mandarin oranges reduces liver cancer. This may be due in part to Vitamin A compounds known as carotenoids.
