Some interesting information about Japanese food

1) For centuries RICE has been the most important food in Japan.

Most Japanese meals are accompanied with a bowl of plain cooked rice.

2) TOFU made from soy beans is the next important food.

3) SOYABEAN itself is eaten in various forms, making it an integral part of the Japanese cuisine.

Edamame are boiled soybean still in the pod.

Roasted Soyabean are mixed with rice crackers and eaten.

Soy sauce is made of fermented and roasted soybeans.

Three types of soy sauce are available

i) Regular all purpose

ii) Sashimi soy sauce - light or flavour
iii) Low sodium - health conscious

4) SEAWEED like the thin dried Nori is used with rice in sushi.

5) PICKLED GINGER is always served with sushi.
