Japanese food is cooked on the stove-top and it is never cooked in an oven.
An ideal Japanese meal has a balance of the fives of Japanese cooking, the five colours and the six tastes.
Japanese cooking is by boiling, grilling, steaming, deep-frying and serving raw.
The five colours are green, yellow, red, white and black (dark purple).
The six tastes are bitter, sour, sweet, hot, salty and umami.
Most Japanese food are eaten with chopsticks.
