DIWALI MATS THAT SHIMMER
DREAM PLACEMATS
Needed
Clear beveled glass sheet of 4 or 5 mm – Large mats (18” x 12.5”), Small mats (14.5” x 9.5”) {inclusive of 1/2" bevel on all sides}
Gelatin paper (of different colours) for – Large mats (19” x 13.5”) or 1/2 sheet, Small mats (15.5” x 10.5”)
Aluminium Foil (ALUFO) for - Large mats (2 sheets of 18" length each), Small mats (1 sheet of 18" length)
Chart paper for – Large mats (16.5” x 11”), Small mats (13” x 8”)
Plastic sheet – Large mats (16.5” x 11”), Small mats (13” x 8”)
3/4” width - Cello tape
Scissor
Foot ruler
Prepare
Crush the Aluminium foil with both your hands and open it slightly, once again repeat the process.
If required do it once more.
For the Larger mat - tape both the crushed sheets together.
For the Smaller mat - use the crushed sheet horizontally.
Assembling
Throughout the making, do not cover the beveled edges with any paper.
1) Overturn the glass.
2) Place the gelatin paper neatly on it.
Put extra paper of gelatin of different sizes on this.This step is optional as it can be used to create different designs.
Fold one inch from all sides.
Tape 1/4" of the outside edge of the gelatin up to the outside edge of the bevel, lengthwise. (Do so on both the long sides only)
3)Now open all the four sides of the folded gelatin and spread the prepared aluminium foil on the full gelatin.
Fold the sides of the gelatin again over the foil.
4)Place the chart paper and the plastic sheet over this. Using the cello tape (lengthwise) attach these two layers to the outside edge of the gelatin.
Repeat this process on the other three sides.
5) Turnover the mat and enjoy the shimmer.
